@larskienle

Setting up my Active Directory Homelab in VMware with 1 DC and 2 host machines which I’ll be using to experiment and understand different attack and defense scenarios in the environment.

It is important to note that some of the practices used during the creation of this lab are intentionally weak to better describe the possible attack vectors.

Downloading files for Active Directory

We just need two ISO files:

  1. Windows Server 2019
  2. Windows 10 Enterprise

Installing Windows Server 2019

After downloading above ISO files, open up VMware and click “File” > “New Virtual Machine”

Click “Next” on “Typical (recommended)” > “Installer Disk Image File (iso)” then “Browse” for the ISO file of our Windows Server 2019.

Leave everything else to it’s default setting, just keep clicking “Next” until you can click “Finish”, before you do, make sure “Power on this virtual machine after creation” is unchecked.
